I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland (Go Ravens!!) and have now lived all over the country with my husband, Nick, and dog, Reptar, courtesy of the US Army. I was a high school athlete competing in track and field but discovered a real passion for fitness later in life when I realized the profound impact it could have on my mental health when applied in the right ways for the right reasons. I used to exclusively run and do crunches, but once I discovered weight lifting, I never looked back. I am happiest in the gym doing heavy barbell work.
I think I spent the majority of my life working out to try and be smaller. Not even better or healthier, just thinner. And it was very rarely fun. When I continued to work on myself, my relationship with my body, and food, I finally started to enjoy working out again. Now I exercise to be strong and to be healthy. I’m no longer afraid to take up space and I love and respect myself more when I listen to my body—pushing when it’s time to push and resting when I need to rest.
Working out with me means that you will not only be exploring your fitness goals but also your mental and emotional wellness. How are you feeling outside of the gym? How do feel when you look in the mirror? What is your relationship with food like? I want to know those things and I want to help. I believe that spending time being active and pushing the boundaries of your limitations leads to increased self-confidence and self-empowerment and is meant to be an act of self-love. I want your time in the gym to be the best part of your day because you’re giving to yourself and connecting with others who want the same thing.
