It Starts With the Warm-Up

A great workout doesn’t start with the first lift, sprint, or circuit. It starts with the warm-up.

At Pick It Up Fitness, we believe warming up is one of the most important parts of every workout. It’s not just something to “get through” before the real work begins — it is part of the workout. A proper warm-up prepares your body, sharpens your focus, and helps you get the most out of every class.

When people skip warm-ups on their own, they often jump straight into movement with stiff muscles, tight joints, and a nervous system that isn’t fully ready to perform. That’s when workouts feel harder than they should, movement quality drops, and injuries become more likely. Warming up helps change all of that.

During our Pick It Up Fitness classes, we guide members through warm-ups with intention and purpose. You never have to wonder what stretches to do, how long to move, or whether you’re preparing correctly. Our coaches lead you step-by-step through movements designed specifically for the workout ahead.

If the workout includes running, jumping, or fast-paced conditioning, your warm-up will help elevate your heart rate gradually and prepare your legs and lungs for the effort ahead. If strength training is the focus, we work on mobility, activation, and movement patterns that help you lift safely and effectively. Every warm-up is designed to match the demands of the class.

Warming up also improves performance. When your body temperature rises and blood flow increases, your muscles respond faster and more efficiently. You move better, react quicker, and often feel stronger throughout the workout. Many people are surprised by how much better they perform simply because they took the time to prepare correctly.

There’s also a mental side to warming up that often gets overlooked. Life moves fast, and many members walk into class carrying stress from work, school, family responsibilities, or long days. The warm-up creates a transition. It gives you time to mentally lock in, focus on yourself, and prepare to attack the workout with confidence and energy.

At Pick It Up Fitness, we take pride in creating workouts that are welcoming, structured, and supportive from start to finish. That includes the warm-up. Our coaches are there to demonstrate movements, provide modifications, and make sure everyone — from beginners to experienced athletes — feels prepared before the intensity picks up.

The goal isn’t just to get through a workout. The goal is to train consistently, stay healthy, move well, and keep improving over time. Proper warm-ups play a huge role in making that possible.

So the next time class starts and we begin those dynamic stretches, activation drills, or light movement circuits, remember: the warm-up is not extra. It’s the foundation for everything that comes next.
